The Power of our Words

Words are powerful. Words invoke emotions and bring back memories. Words can be the spark for us to take action. By carefully choosing the words you say, you can influence others and sometimes bring them around to your point of view. You could also alienate them forever.

When we choose a word to go along with a reading, we are giving you an extra boost. Many times you cannot apply a reading to a specific instance in you life, but you can always relate to a word.  Below is a list of words we use here at Tarot Magic.

I encourage you to send me your favorite word so I can add it to the list below.

  • Choose a word from this page or any other word you can come up with. Whatever word catches your eye.

  • Write the word down. Take a second or two to look at the word, with no agenda in mind.

  • Now assign a meaning to the word. Your meaning, not a dictionary meaning.

    • Example: SWEET. I think of sweet as in sugar. So to me that means dessert or treating myself to something sweet. If I take that further, I could imagine treating myself to all sorts of things (like a massage, or popcorn at the movies, etc.)

  • Put the paper with the word on it aside. Make sure it is in a place that you will see it at the end of your day. Maybe the refrigerator, on your bathroom mirror, on your pillow or nightstand.

  • Continue on through your day!

  • That evening, think about the day you've just had and how it has related to the word. If you take the example of sweet, maybe you went out to lunch and had a dessert. Or perhaps you saw a rainbow. Again, since you gave the word its definition, you can identify what happened in your day that related to the word.

  • Now take a moment to reflect. Ask yourself if the word actually encouraged you to do something (like have dessert at lunch). Did you enjoy the moment a bit more than usual because you felt you were given permission (to eat that dessert)? Did you make a connection between choosing your word and the experience you had with the word?

As I said at the beginning, words are powerful and can influence us. So if you are needing a dose of encouragement, then choose a word every week and put it on your refrigerator so you can remember it throughout. When you are ready, you can change the word.

Personal experience. I was in New York at a trade show and the guys in the booth beside me were giving out little magnets with words on them. I chose the word UP. I assigned the meaning to be, there is no where to go except UP. I put it on my refrigerator and it is still there. I stuck it on the side, so I don't always notice it, but when I do see it, it reminds me to always look to the future for new possibilities.
