The High Priestess

I wanted to talk about the High Priestess today because it is such a powerful card and one I have been contemplating on recently.

When I look at the High Priestess card I see:

  • Power

  • All-seeing

  • The connection between the physical and the spiritual worlds

I firmly believe that we have all the answers within ourselves. At any time we can access our inner voice and have it guide us through all of life's challenges. But accessing that voice remains a mystery to many.

Drawing the High Priestess in a reading encourages us to look beyond what is obvious or what we believe is plain fact. Realize that there are mysteries in life that we just may not understand, and then embrace that realization.

In tarot the High Priestess represents the archetypal symbol of the unknown. She is the keeper of secrets and carefully, at all times, guards those secrets. Her presence urges us to look behind the veil of life's illusions to answer our innermost concerns.

What does that mean in practical terms? Well for one thing, when we have an issue we want answers, right? So we ask, how am I going to solve this problem? Then we turn to the tarot and draw the High Priestess. The tarot is a physical manifestation of our spiritual desires. So when you draw a card your inner voice is answering your question.

It is time to start thinking outside of "your" box. We are wiser and stronger than we think we are. There are many of us that draw on the Higher Power that is in our lives. We ask out loud for help and we wait for a sign. What I have found is that asking for help in that way is most often done when tragedy strikes and we believe we need our Higher Power because we cast ourselves as "not powerful". Yet I believe our Higher Power dwells within us at all times and is ready for any occasion. So why not use our inner voice (or Higher Power) on a daily basis, whether we are in a good place or not.

Okay, you might think asking your Higher Power what to cook for dinner is a waste of the Higher Powers time, but it really isn't. As carbon based life forms, we are connected physically to all that there is. You've heard the phrase "we are all stardust". What that means is, we are all made of the same materials, and are just vibrating at different frequencies. And what that means (to me) is that we have mental access to ALL THAT THERE IS. My physic teacher used to say, if we send out a signal and are not tuned in to the same airway, the answer will come but we will miss it because we are tuned in to a different channel. So that is the trick. Aligning ourselves with our Higher Power, Inner Voice, or Intuition. We need to keep the channel on all the time to hear the answers.

I digress. So when we are desperate for an answer and we draw the High Priestess in a reading, we force ourselves to use our power to engage ourselves in quiet meditation. We unlock for ourselves the answers (or secrets) within us to solve our problems. That is the mystery and the power of the High Priestess.
