Five of Cups

So here we have the Five of Cups. There is a young man kneeling on the ground, head buried in his hands. Clearly upset. Three cups lie on their sides in front of him empty. From his point of view there is nothing but loss. He is upset and not willing to focus on anything else but this loss.

Hold on! What is that behind him? Two cups standing upright! The river flows freely beside him and the castle on the hill beckons him.

What is wrong with this picture?

I was walking the other day and happened along these daisies in the middle of an empty lot with nothing but dirt and weeds. The cool thing was that I didn't even notice the dirt. The daisies drew my eye immediately. So much so that I took a photo and then kept walking. Later on (in my walk) it occurred to me that I should go back and snap a photo of the dirt as well. Why, you ask! Because it was there. It is always there. There is always pain and sorrow and ups and downs and good luck and bad luck.

Always.

Disappointment is always at hand. And it is super easy for us to just focus on the disappointment. Maybe if we change the word "disappointment" to something else. Challenge? That is a great word isn't it? That is a word we definitely use at work. But what about our personal lives. Life has a way of throwing obstacles at us constantly. And some of those obstacles are really hard to overcome. In fact some (obstacles) are insurmountable.

My physic teacher, Alexandria, used to tell me that the souls we encounter in this lifetime stay with us forever. So for example, someone who is a boyfriend in this life, might be a best friend in the next. In that way, we always know that they will circle back around to be with us. That is not much comfort when we have lost someone we love. But it is a hope.

If you are facing an insurmountable loss, then the first step is to grieve. As long and as hard as it takes. But then do look around. It could be that those two cups sitting upright behind you will help you to carry on.

My heart goes out to the families of the Robb Elementary School shootings and the insurmountable pain they are going through. No Tarot reading is going to help at this time. My wish is that laws will be changed that will help make this tragedy avoidable in the future.
