the six of pentacles

Two of Pentacles_edited.jpg

Sixes represent harmony, idealism, inner peace.

“On drawing this card, ask yourself: Am I giving to others and not to myself? Or am I giving to myself (too much) and not to others?”

The suit of Pentacles is associated with the material world. It is the way we see ourselves living in the world and how we relate to it.

This card shows a woman with outstretched arms. Two children kneel at her feet. One outstretched hand is reaching to pat one child on the head. In her other hand is a scale of justice which she is holding in her left hand. One child is looking at his friend. An empty plate sits in front of him. The six pentacles form an arch over all three figures.

The Six of Pentacles is a card about giving. The woman in the card is serene. As sixes stand for harmony and inner peace, the woman appears to have achieved both. She is in a position where she can share. By holding the scale of justice in her hand, she is showing that she must weigh her generosity and to be fair and just.

Although the card depicts a woman being generous to others, the most important person in your life is yourself. Sometimes we are so focused on others that we forget about ourselves entirely. Because the figure on the card is holding the scale of justice, the card is telling us to balance what we give to others with what we give to ourselves. In many of our relationships we give, give, give, and receive nothing in return. We need love and attention also!

Of course, the opposite could be true. Are you giving yourself all of the attention and no one else is a recipient of your generous nature? Hmmmmm. Those scales may need to be balanced.

On drawing this card, ask yourself: Am I giving to others and not to myself? Or am I giving to myself (too much) and not to others? Beyond that, being generous is a good thing. It does not have to be elaborate, giving out your smile is a wonderful thing. See what you can do today to spread the love around.
