the tower

The Tower is the number sixteen in the deck and symbolizes wholeness and completion. It can also denote the trials and defeats you may experience throughout your life.

“Dump the ego and get down to what is real. We build ourselves up around

what we think is happening and then sudden change happens, and we are not prepared.

It is that unpreparedness that causes fear and anxiety.”

On this card is a tall tower / high-rise / building. A man is literally tumbling down, appearing to have fallen out of the building. The man is wearing a mask. There are bolts of electricity radiating from the building in a dark sky. Below the darkness are white puffy clouds with a hint of sunset. Above is an all-seeing eye.

This card is screaming disaster! The lightening bolts hitting the building represent seismic change. The man free-falling represents a desperate act. The fact that he is wearing a mask indicates he is in disbelieve of his circumstances right now and cannot accept what is actually happening to him.

The phase “the rug being pulled out from under you” springs to mind. This is a totally unexpected turn of events that have shaken the very foundation we stand on. We are now entering a place outside of our comfort zone. The mask shows us that we might have been living under this illusion for a long time and now the walls are literally falling down around us. Shock. Disbelief. Those are the emotions that we are feeling right now.

Well, what is happening today? The Tower is asking us to dump the ego and get down to what is real. We build ourselves up around what we think is happening and then sudden change happens, and we are not prepared. It is that unpreparedness that causes fear and anxiety. Fear is the greatest of illusions. Look around you. Is everything still standing? Then it is okay. This too will pass. Remember when change happens, new opportunities appear.

When it comes to our emotions and the illusions we create, little things might be small things that we are blowing up out of proportion.
