“Remember that not everyone has your belief system, so agree to disagree. You wanna be right? Or you wanna be unhappy…your choice.”

The Hierophant is sitting on his throne with his eyes closed. He has a long white beard. Seemingly attached to his jeweled cap, are feathers resembling wings. In his left hand he is holding a scepter; his right hand is pointing up. Beneath him there are two elaborate masks.

The Hierophant is wise beyond his years. The scepter is the symbol of authority. His long beard indicates wisdom. The wings connect him to the spiritual aspects of our being. The masks below him represent humanity.

The Hierophant represents knowledge and education. Rules and traditions are based on the beliefs of those who went before us to preserve what was useful in their time. The Hierophant has the wisdom of our predecessors but is well educated in today’s norms and mores.

When choosing this card, there are questions to be asked and then answered. Are you stuck in the past? Are you battling against restrictions imposed by others? Is your current belief system limiting the free-spirited, independent side of your nature?

Whatever your beliefs are, the repression of your right to think freely may result in conformity. What is happening today? Are you going along with the gang? Or are you exercising your right of expression. The Hierophant may be reminding you that the wisdom of your elders may have influenced your thinking, but you are the one living in the here and now. Be who you are! Yes…learn from the past but be your own person.

One other thought, remember that not everyone has your belief system, so agree to disagree. You wanna be right? Or you wanna be happy…your choice.
