“The Death card is telling us that it is a time of transition. Something ends.

Then something begins.”

This card has a malnourished, skeleton-like figure unable to sit upright. Gnarled fingers clutch at his tattered sheath. Sitting at his feet is a woman, head buried in her hands, sobbing. On the other side is a flower in full bloom looking up.

This is a scary looking card! The living skeleton bent over. A woman sobbing at his feet. But the smallest element on this card is the most powerful, and that is the flower blooming below. The Death card, albeit a scary looking card, is actually one of the most positive cards in the deck. I love the analogy of the snake. Snakes shed their skin because it doesn’t fit anymore or because it’s old or worn out. When snakes grow, their skin does not. They rid themselves of the old and grow a new outer layer.

The Death card is telling us that it is a time of transition. Something ends. Then something begins. Death symbolizes change in the most dramatic way. Change is not always easy, especially if it comes as a surprise. However, the only constant in our lives is change. Our bodies change, we change our clothes, we change, we change, we change. I know, I get tired of changing too. But by embracing the changes in our lives instead of fighting it, it releases so much tension!

Let’s have fun today. Go into your closet and get rid of something. How about that outdated sweater that you have been saving for the ski trip you were going to take 5 years ago? Just the act of getting rid of something, makes way for something new to come into your life.

Make that change!
